What About Separation of Church and State

Separation of "church and state" is not stated in the U.S. Constitution, but is a concept sacred within the First Amendment. Two provisions concerning religion within the First Amendment are the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause where the antecedent clause prohibits government "establishing" state-sponsored churches and the latter clause protects citizens' right to practice their religion of choice. Recent, 1971, U.S. Supreme Court decision decreed there shall be no excessive entanglement between church and state and the government can assist religion(s) secularly neither promoting nor inhibiting religion(s). In essence, the government sits on the sidelines to provide general support using the tax dollars collected from individuals and businesses.
